RCS Haven E-Bulletin – June 2018

Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events. 

RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain. 

NEWS

Graduation 2018

The festival for the end of the 2017/18 Academic year will be held on 16'th June 2018.
Following our tradition of this achievement, together we will celebrate the end of the academic year with; a mini concert which we will all enjoy; award certificates, as well as gifts, to the numerous competition winners.
We will be congratulating our most senior class on a successful completion of their secondary level of Russian studies in Scotland, which is coming to an end with passing an examination of GCE Russian language.
Graduates will be awarded a special Diploma as well as exclusive presents in recognition of their achievement.
Some of them will continue their education in the new year as part of a two-year program of preparation for the exam in the Russian language GCE Russian A level
The final day of school will end with tea and cake to celebrate, where everyone will be invited to have a chat with the teachers and parents about our school and the future plans for our next academic year! 
 
VACANCIES
 
Police Scotland continues to encourage members of ethnic minorities to apply for the job and once again refers to the Russian-speaking community.
RCS Haven is looking for Russian and Chess teachers for the Saturday school.
Also, we are looking for volunteers.

EDUCATION 
The School of Russian Centre in Scotland  Haven 
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at - Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]
Russian classes for tests and exams 
RCS Haven prepares students for taking tests and exams in the Russian language, and also conducts / organizes tests and exams: Russian for Life and Work Level 3 and level 4 (reg. No: SQA 3014177), and GCSE  Ð¸ GCE A Level in Russian (reg. No: EDEXCEL - 70233).  Classes take place on Saturdays from 12.00. to 13.30 at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]
Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Russian lessons on Mondays at Beginners from 19.00 to 20.30; Advanced from 18.00 to 19.00, Intensive Beginners group on Wednesdays from 18.00. to 19.30 (11 Duke Street) and Saturdays at 11.00 (Adelphi Centre).

Roads Not Taken: Book presentation with Alexander Etkind

Alexander Etkind presents his recent book on Bullitt, based on unpublished papers and diplomatic documents from the Russian archives. The book portrays Bullitt as an original thinker and elucidates his role as a political actor. His roads were not taken, but the world would have been different if Bullitt’s warnings had been heeded. The screening of a recent performance at Moscow's TYuZ Youth Theatre, brought to Edinburgh by StageRussia, Ourscreen and the SRF. Based on the short story by Anton Chekhov, Kama Ginkas’ astounding adaptation highlights and builds off of the Chekhovian tension between the beauty of life and the tragedy of how it is lived. A bilingual reading Introduced by Antony Wood.
This year Pushkin’s birth is celebrated at Pushkin House with a bilingual reading – a poem for each year of his writing life, from the age of fourteen to thirty-six.
A different translator has been chosen for each poem, representing the wide variety of responses to Pushkin during the twentieth century and the present time.
