RCS Haven E-Bulletin - December 2013

Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.
RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.

NEWS

 
Dear Friends!
You are cordially invited to our New Year/Christmas celebrations at 1pm 21st December at Broomhill Church of Scotland, 64-66 Randolph Road, G11 7JL.
The programme will include a production of ‘Mary’s Stories’, traditional dances, competitions/games for both children and adults and tea and coffee.  We will have the use of two halls: one large for the show and another smaller one for the use of mothers with small children.
Tickets are £10 for one child and parent, including a gift.  If you would like to invite other adults to the celebrations, an additional ticket can be purchased for £3.
We will also be holding a ‘bake off’ competition at the New Year/Christmas celebrations.  Everyone is invited to participate and let their home cooking shine.
Tickets will be sold at school between 11am and 1pm at The Wise Group, 72 Charlotte St, G1 5DW.  Alternatively, you can purchase tickets between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday at 11 Duke Street, G4 0UL.
Tickets with gifts will be sold until 7th December inclusive, and tickets without gifts until 14th December inclusive.

Orthodox Church Services:
The following Scottish churches hold regular/semi-regular Orthodox services (all welcome):

Art studio for Children
Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Thursdays from 5pm till 7pm.

6, 9 December, 7.30pm
Join Russkaya Cappella for a concert of festive music for Christmas, and to mark the fourth centenary of the Romanov dynasty.  Guest appearance by the talented young voices of the Children’s Singing Studio. The programme for each concert remains the same, though the Children’s Singing Studio from Glasgow Russian Orthodox School will take part in some items in the Milngavie concert.
The programme has three components:
music for the Orthodox Nativity Liturgy
music associated with the Romanov dynasty, whose 400th anniversary is marked in 2013
carols and folksongs linked to the Christmas season.
The concert includes works by composers who served at the Imperial Court Chapel Choir, which sang for court worship and official ceremonies, as well as music held in particular affection by members of the imperial family. The cantata “300 Years” composed specifically for the anniversary of the dynasty in 1913 by Alexander Kastalsky will also be performed.

The aim of these courses is to understand the tradition of icon painting through studying masterpieces of the past and through their inspiration to create your own icon.
Learning the technique according to all principles of tempera technique which uses dry pigments and egg yolk.
