RCS Haven E-Bulletin - February 2014

Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.
 
RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.

NEWS

Forget all your worries and your woes.  Help us to wave goodbye to February and welcome March.  
We will be celebrating Pancake Day/Shrove Tuesday on March 1st 2014 at 13:00.  
You are all invited to join in the festivities with a concert and party.
All guests are please asked to bring pancakes and other treats.  

Every Wednesday, from 19.00 to 20.00, we invite you at the Center “Haven” for an English class. Classes take place in the RCS Haven 11 Duke Street, Glasgow, G40UL

Regular events in Scotland

Orthodox Church Services:
The following Scottish churches hold regular/semi-regular Orthodox services (all welcome):
Glasgow: The Parish of St. Kentigern (Russian Orthodox). Services held in Govan Old Church, 866 Govan Road, Glasgow, G51 3UU.
Edinburgh: Orthodox Community of St. Andrew (a mixture of Orthodox faiths. Services held in the Chapel of St. Andrew, 2 Meadow Lane, Edinburgh, EH8 9NR.
Art studio for Children
Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Thursdays from 5pm till 7pm.

A 'Kvartirnik' is a performance at home: no rules, no structures - whereas theatre is a shrine to high culture. What happens when the two meet and clash, and sort it out in the old-fashioned way - like real men? Suitable for ages 16+.

This seminar is designed for companies operating in the construction sector.

This lecture will be devoted to Petr Sokolov, a brilliant and influential book illustrator who was close to the OBERIIU poets, whose children's books he often illustrated.

The aim of the seminar is to provide an update on recent case law concerning the service of proceedings out of jurisdiction. In particular, the seminar will examine the significance of such recent decisions and whether the reasoning adopted by the English courts in them could increasingly permit matters with no ostensible connection to England and Wales to be tried here, if it can be demonstrated that the interests of justice will not be served in a foreign jurisdiction.
