The Russian club at the Scottish schools
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at - Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]
RCS Haven prepares students for taking tests and exams in the Russian language, and also conducts / organizes tests and exams: Russian for Life and Work Level 3 and level 4 (reg. No: SQA 3014177), and GCSE и GCE A Level in Russian (reg. No: EDEXCEL - 70233). Classes take place on Saturdays from 12.00. to 13.30 at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Zhenya (Maryana Spivak) and Boris (Aleksey Rozin) are going through a vicious divorce marked by resentment, frustration and recriminations. Embarking on new lives, each with a new partner, they are impatient to start again, to turn the page – even if it means threatening to abandon their 12-year-old son Alyosha (Matvey Novikov). Until, after witnessing one of their fights, Alyosha disappears, and these estranged parents must find common ground once again. Leviathan director Andrey Zvyagintsev returns with this subtly devastating drama, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes and Best Film at BFI London Film Festival.

Konstantin Batyushkov (1787-1853) was one of the creators of modern Russian poetry. He was an inspiration for Pushkin, and in the twentieth century. Peter France is a former professor at Edinburgh University and the translator of many Russian poets, most recently Baratynsky and Mandelstam, In his new book, Writings from the Golden Age of Russian Poetry, just published by Columbia University Press, he weaves together Batyushkov’s life with translations of his writings in verse and prose. To launch the book in the UK, Peter France will give a talk on Batyushkov, illustrated by readings in Russian and English and followed by an informal reception. Conversations on Contemporary Russia: Higher School of Economics, Moscow

From 19 to 23 February 2018, the Princess Dashkova Russian Centre hosts a series of lectures by scholars from the Higher School of Economics, Moscow. Their visit to the University of Edinburgh takes place under the auspices of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Scheme. All lectures take place at the Dashkova Centre.
