RCS Haven E-Bulletin - June 2014

Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.
RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.

NEWS

 
 2014 - 15 school year is the last year when students will be able to sit SQA Russian Higher Exam.
Anyone who may need the SQA Russian Higher qualification either to enter a university or to develop future career plans are very welcome to join our lessons of Russian.
These two-hours-a-week lessons will prepare you for the exam and also build confidence in Russian grammar, creative writing and basics of business language.
Those who are younger than 14 yeas old (the minimum age requirement for SQA Higher Exams)  or whose who are not yet ready for Higher level could consider other qualifications:
Access 2 & 3, Intermediate 1 & 2, Russian Language for Life and Work Award (S3 & S4 levels) - would suit beginners and intermediate English speaking students. 
The classes will commence on August 28, 2014 and will take place every Thursday at 6 - 8pm in the classroom of RCS Haven at 11 Duke St, Glasgow, Glasgow City G4 0UL. More...

 
Research Centre for Social Systems in cooperation with RCS Haven is carrying out the project 'Social aspects of pedagogical practice in the British multicultural society'.
From 14 to 22 June 2014 the project will be attended by academics from the Republic of Kazakhstan, from Zhetysujskii State University of Ilyas Zhansugurov.
One of the main goals of the project is to introduce Kazakh colleagues to a modern outlook and practice of scientific approaches to practical social work with a range social groups. More...

 
Our Centre won a grant from the twinning and international budgets of Glasgow City Council to continue teaching Russian in three Glasgow schools: All Saints Secondary, Jordanhill Secondary School and Dalmarnock Primary.
This is the third year that the Russian Club has run, and we have expanded the remit of the sessions considerably.
Whilst the Club remains oriented around Russian language and culture, we have also introduced the option for Secondary level students to study towards an SQA level Russian Language for Life qualification. 
RCS Haven is an approved SQA centre, and passed our most recent SQA assessment (April 2014).
The overarching aim of the club remains to be to build links between Scottish and Russian culture. More...

Russian Speaking Volunteers Wanted
Due to high numbers of Russian Speakers accessing Greater Pollok Integration Network's services we are eager to recruit a computer literate Russian-speaking volunteer to support it's work.
Volunteering On Tuesdays from 13.00 to 15.00 the role would include assisting people to access job opportunities online as well as helping them to design their own CVs.

Orthodox Church Services:
The following Scottish churches hold regular/semi-regular Orthodox services (all welcome):

Art studio for Children
Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Thursdays from 5pm till 7pm.
