RCS Haven E-Bulletin - October 2013

Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.

RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.
 
NEWS 
 
This year, we are starting Puppet Theatre Workshops and Art-Studio. The kids will discover Russian folklore through fairy-tales, traditions and feasts. They will learn the drawing principals and master a variety of techniques by using drawing tools.
The class starts on Thursday 3d October at 5.15pm until 7.15pm

Orthodox Church Services:
The following Scottish churches hold regular/semi-regular Orthodox services (all welcome):

Art studio for Children
Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Wednesdays from 5pm till 7pm.

The Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1930 as the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, and for decades has been one of the bastions of Russian music, serving as the official orchestra for the Soviet All-Union Radio network until the collapse of the USSR. Current music director Vladimir Fedoseyev has been steering the ensemble since 1974.

For all practising teachers of Russian, specialists on bilingualism and all other people interested in this matter. Participation is free.

Russian schools in Aberdeen (Slovo) and Dundee.  Supported by the Russkiy Mir Foundation

The following topics will be given priority during the conference:
- The development and education of bilingual children;
- Methodology of teaching Russian in Saturday and Sunday schools;
- Methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language at Universities, public schools and language centres.
It is planned to create a discussion forum with the working title "Pedsovet" that will continue to elaborate on the questions discussed during the conference and will plan new events to take place in Scotland.
It will be one-day conference consisting of 2 parts:
1. Oral presentations and discussions.
2. Round table.

Jelena Makarova is a Russian born Lithuanian pianist. She started playing piano at the age of five and began her training as a pianist at the State School of Art's for gifted children, Lithuania. She then continued her studies at the Lithuanian Music Academy. During her studies Jelena won 1st prize at the National Competition for Young Pianists.

The St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra's Yuri Temirkanov conducts an all-Russian programme.
Prokofiev and Rachmaninov were brilliant composer-pianists, but whereas Prokofiev was an iconoclast who delighted in railing at tradition, Rachmaninov inherited Tchaikovsky's mantle without demur.
