Shamil Khairov has taught Slavonic linguistics in several countries and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Glasgow, where he also teaches a course on Russian 20th - century visual culture.

    He is a committed black-and-white photographer, a member of the Russian Union of Photographic Artists. His principal subject matter is provided by rural and urban life in the Russian provinces, and by still life.
