Berglind. The smile of an oligarch. Exhibition
Sat 1 – Sun 16 Sep
The third part of the annual exhibition “WHO IS AFRAID OF A RUSSIAN ДOLL?” by Berglind, the Edinburgh based artist, is dealing, as it did before, with the subject of supply and demand.
“The smile of an oligarch” is devoted to the supply of “Russian” oligarchs such as Boris Berezovsky, in Britain. Is Britain short of “Russian” oligarchs? Does it need some more? Where do they come from? All political correctness aside, just how Russian are the “Russian” oligarchs? Should Her Majesty the Queen grant a title of a baronet to anyone who looted Russia in the 90-s and came to settle down in the UK with stolen billions? Would people, such as Berezovsky be ever granted political asylum in the UK were they free from their billions? And the most important question: where is the dignity gone?

Russia: Lessons and legacy – the Alexander Men Conference 2012
Fri 14 – Mon 17 Sep
Towards the end of the Soviet era, Russia needed to find a new idea of itself. The inspirational figure who emerged was Alexander Men, equal in moral authority to the Dalai Lama, Dietrich Bonhoeffer in Nazi Germany or Jerzy Popielusko in Communist- era Poland.  Like the last two, his life was cut short by totalitarian authorities because of the idea of freedom which he embodied. It is therefore apt that the title chosen by our Russian partners to use in Russian for Russian delegates is: Russia In Search of Itself

Thu 27 Sep 7pm
Kyril Drezov
Language: In English
Relations between Russia and Bulgaria are marked by their closeness in alphabet, language, culture and religion. However, in 2012 Bulgaria’s young generations are more likely to speak English than Russian, and to look for role models in the West.Yet the legacy of decades of past integration is still there, casting a long shadow over every attempt to base Bulgarian-Russian relations on pragmatism and mutual interest.
