NEWS

Healthy living is more than simple daily habits – it's a lifestyle!
An unhealthy habit is easy to develop and hard to live with; a healthy habit is harder to develop but easier to live with.
Would you like to know how to encourage children to eat fruit and vegetables? What are healthy alternatives to snacking? How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle without breaking the bank?
Funded by Healthier Scotland Engagement Fund, we have invited an expert from the University of Glasgow to speak about her research into healthy food.
Join our Healthy Event, which takes place in Adelphi center (12 Commercial road, G5 0PQ) on the 13th of February at 1pm.

Our centre did workshops and ran a marketplace stall at the Glasgow Business Brunch on 13th January, 2016 in the University of Strathclyde organized by Scotland's National Centre for Languages. The event was organized for about 20 Glasgow schools. The stall went down a storm with the pupils! Natalya Krisanova's workshops were also very well received by the pupils and the teachers. They were so inspired by the talks about Russia, the Russian Language and Russian famous people that in the end of each workshop they were eager to learn Cyrillic and even wrote their names by themselves! The most amazing and admirable part was that they did that correctly! The most active pupils got little cute matryoshkas together with the first knowledge and inspiration to learn Russian.

Glinka and Mussorgsky made Russian music glitter with the colours of a Fabergé egg; a century later in the Soviet Union, Dmitri Shostakovich is said to have lamented a life turned grey. But there are few more gripping documents of that life than his First Violin Concerto. The award-winning Moscow-born violinist Boris Brovtsyn grew up immersed in its world; as the former music director of the Bolshoi, meanwhile, Alexander Vedernikov, is perfectly placed to bring out all the drama, the spectacle, and the undercurrent of passion in both Glinka’s ballroom romance and Mussorgsky’s fantastic musical picture gallery.

12, 26 February, 19.30 pm
Rachmaninov’s Second is surely the world’s most romantic piano concerto – and with soloist Boris Giltburg, it’s the passionate heart of a Valentine’s concert that’s much more than just a brief encounter. Gustav Mahler sends a tender love letter to his beautiful young wife; under the blue skies of Italy, Tchaikovsky dreams of dark eyes and scented nights; and in Richard Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier, a silver rose is the key to love at first sight. If music is the food of love, then this is a Michelin-starred banquet!

4 February, 16.00 pm
Talk by Professor Andrey Shcherbenok (SKOLKOVO Business School, Russia), on the perceptions and reality of Russian government ideology.
The politics of Russian government of the recent decade is often perceived, both in the West and domestically, as increasingly ideology-driven, that is to say, subordinating rational decision-making to loftier ideas / phantasms / historical complexes. It is also viewed as aggressively anti-Western, not only in its diplomatic confrontation with the USA and the EU, but also in its attempt to formulate a set of specifically Russian ideologemes. How do these perceptions correlate with the actual work of the government? In this talk I will focus on a specific area of governance  – the state management of university education.
Andrey Shcherbenok received his candidate of science degree in Russian literature from St. Petersburg State University and his PhD in Rhetoric with a Designated Emphasis in Film Studies from UC Berkeley. He was a Mellon postdoctoral fellow at Columbia Society of Fellows in the Humanities and a Newton international research fellow of the British Academy at the University of Sheffield. He has worked on Russian and Soviet cinema, Russian literature, deconstruction, trauma theory, and historical memory.  Since 2012 he is a professor of practice at SKOLKOVO Business School in Moscow where he deals with governance and strategic management of Russian research universities.
