RCS Haven E-Bulletin - March 2017

 Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.

RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain.


NEWS

Russian Centre RCS Haven participates in Language Show Live Scotland 

No automatic alt text available.Language Show Live Scotland is the largest language trade show in Scotland and traditionally bring together a lot of participants including professionals, language teachers and learners in an incredible celebration of languages.

Language Show Live Scotland
 will take place on 10 - 11 March at the SECC in Glasgow.
 
Within the show you can attend:
 
 - 30 min Russian taster on, Natalia Krisanov, teachers from RCS Haven, who run classes in Glasgow and answer questions about GCSE and GCE Russian exam in Glasgow. FREE - just drop in, no need to register.
 
Teachers' seminar - On Some Aspects of Teaching Business Russian by Ignaty Dyakov, author of a series of textbooks.. FREE - but you need to register.
 
- Language Plus Russian class. A two hour intensive class for beginners taught by the SRF's tutor Natalia Samoilova.  
 
Performance of Russian songs in the Piazza - "Welcome to Russia" Famous Russian traditional songs by young singer Elena Vervekina, finalist  of such competitions as Moscow Queen 2016 and Moscow Beauty 2017. Organised by Synergy University, Moscow, who have stand 234 at the Show. FREE - no need to book.
 
You can also attend the Stand 332 organised by the Scottish-Russian Forum.

Speak Russian? Thinking of a new career?
Police Scotland is currently recruiting both police officers and special constables into the organization.  Police Scotland is particularly keen to encourage applications from under-represented members from our communities. In their current recruitment campaign, they are looking to engage with potential applicants from all ethnic minorities and a variety of different backgrounds in an effort to be more representative of the diverse communities that they police.

RCS Haven is looking for Chess and Russian teachers for the Saturday school.
Also, we are looking for volunteers.

EDUCATION 

The School of Russian Centre in Scotland  Haven 
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]

Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Russian and English language courses for adults 
Classes for those who want to study Russian and English language.
Russian lessons on Mondays at Beginners from 18.00 to 19.00; Advanced from 19.00 to 20.00, Intensive Beginners group on Wednesdays from 18.00. to 19.30 (11 Duke Street) and Saturdays at 11.00 (Adelphi Centre).
English lessons on Thursdays at 7.0pm.

Poets from Scotland and Russia will come together to celebrate Shakespeare’s sonnets as part of the UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016 and global Shakespeare Lives programme.

Poets from Scotland and Russia will come together to celebrate Shakespeare’s sonnets. This event will take place in Edinburgh, Dundee, and Glasgow.

This documentary directed by Margy Kinmoth examines the Russian Avant-Garde movement through artists like Chagall, Malevich, Kandinsky and others. Revolution was filmed in Moscow, St. Petersburg and London and includes pieces from the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Hermitage Museum and the State Russian Museum.

Tatiana Schofield and Elena McGugan (ex Dobson) return to Pushkin House with an evening of poetry by Marina Tsvetaeva and Nikolay Gumilev.  In English with poems read in Russian. Money raised from this event will go to Cancer Research Foundation.

 
3 March, 7.30 – 9.00pm
Robert Chandler leads a workshop on translating from Russian to English. Fluent English and a good reading knowledge of Russian is required. All translators, at any stage of their careers, are welcome. Cost is £6 full price, £3 for FOPH, students, and seniors.

 
5 March, 2.00-3.00pm
Classics for children is an exciting, interactive concert for children and their parents!
During the concert, the performers will not just play, but also talk about the pieces and composers in a way kids can understand and enjoy.

Join Pushkin House and the New York Review of Books on International Pi Day for an evening of poetry that is always fresh and unpredictable.  In English.

Join us for a conversation during London Book Week, with three writers at the forefront of Russian contemporary literature. Chaired by Natalia Rubinstein. In Russian with English translation.

 
26 March, 2.00-4.00pm
Kama Ginkas’ dramatization of Chekhov’s story for The Moscow Young Generation Theater has become a theatre sensation. The show has won the Grand Prix and the Critics’ Prize for Best Production at the Baltic House theatre festival in St. Petersburg.  Presented in Russian with English subtitles.

 
27 March, 6.30-8.30pm
Join author Natasha Dissanayake for an illustrated talk to learn about major aspects of the Russian presence in London from the 16th century to the present day. In English.
This is a GB Russia Society event and all are welcome.
