Greetings, and welcome to our bulletin full of information on exciting Russian events.

We hope that you have had a peaceful, relaxing Christmas, and are looking forward to the start of another year.
 
RCS Haven is welcoming anyone who is interested in studying Russian language, literature and culture. We have English and Russian language lessons. There are a library, Art studio for children and Web-design Studio.
Also, the Centre provides consultations in law, finance and other aspects of work and business in Russia and Britain. 

NEWS

RCS Haven reopens after Winter Break

The Russian centre in Scotland “Haven” is pleased to inform you that all services have now returned to normal.

The Russian School at RCS Haven in Glasgow  for children in Glasgow reopens on 13th January.
Classes are held on Saturdays from 11-00 to 14-00 at The Adelphi Centre 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ.
 
Russian  classes for adults will resume after the Christmas break 10th and 15th January.
 
Our Ðrt studio reopens on Friday 19th January.
 
Please note that all evening classes take place at  RCS Haven, 11 Duke Street, Glasgow, G4 0UL

VACANCIES

 
Police Scotland continues to encourage members of ethnic minorities to apply for the job and once again refers to the Russian-speaking community.

RCS Haven is looking for Russian and Chess teachers for the Saturday school.
Also, we are looking for volunteers.

EDUCATION 

The School of Russian Centre in Scotland  Haven 
Classes for children are based on Russian teaching methods for primary school level native and non-native speakers.
In the current school year, lessons for all classes except the youngest take place between 11.00 and 2.00pm on Saturdays at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]

Russian classes for tests and exams 
RCS Haven prepares students for taking tests and exams in the Russian language, and also conducts / organizes tests and exams: Russian for Life and Work Level 3 and level 4 (reg. No: SQA 3014177), and GCSE  Ð¸ GCE A Level in Russian (reg. No: EDEXCEL - 70233).  Classes take place on Saturdays from 12.00. to 13.30 at Adelphi Centre, 12 Commercial Road, Glasgow G5 0PQ. [email protected]

Art lessons for children are undergoing in RCS Haven.
Under supervision of experienced teachers, a professional artist and a specialist in early development, children study the basics of drawing and painting, language development and drama. All children are welcome on Fridays from 5:30pm till 7:30pm.

Russian and English language courses for adults 
Classes for those who want to study Russian and English language.
Russian lessons on Mondays at Beginners from 17.30 to 19.00; Advanced from 19.00 to 20.00, Intensive Beginners group on Wednesdays from 18.00. to 19.30 (11 Duke Street) and Saturdays at 11.00 (Adelphi Centre).
English lessons on Thursdays at 19.00.(from next month).

Café de la Poste. Sparkling Russian/English conversation over tea and cakes.The group meets on the first Thursday of the month.  No charge apart from any drinks and cakes you choose to purchase. Elena Moore, 10 Weeks.
The course introduces the fascinating world of medieval and classic Russian literature in a historic and social context. Attraction is the latest movie by Fedor Bondarchuk, the director of the Russian box-office smash Stalingrad.

1 - 7 January
The new non-profit Red Door Project Space opens on the 1st of December in South Kensington. The Line of Flight, the first exhibition at Red Door, presents the work of artists Mila Dolman, Lorraine Fossi, James Tabbush and composer Alexey Sysoev and explores the theme of migration. The exhibition takes its name from the Deleuzian term, which describes a theory of nomadism: the desire to continually move to new territories.

Thirty one years since his death, Andrei Tarkovsky (1932-1987) remains one of the highest examples of cinema of all times. Throughout his works, Tarkovsky moved freely between dream space and reality, staging his visions through the medium of cinema as a pure, ethereal art form. This programme features all seven films of the great Soviet master, from Ivan's Childhood to his last masterpiece The Sacrifice, all presented in their original version with English subtitles. #

What is the significance of the symbolism inside, and outside the cathedral, and how did this crazy fantasy come to be built right at the heart of the country.

Vladimir Vysotsky was a singer, songwriter and actor who had an immense and enduring effect on Russian culture. He became widely known for his unique singing style and for his lyrics, which featured social and political commentary often expressed in humorous and down-to-earth language. He was also a prominent stage and screen actor.  He gave voice to what many felt but could not express and became immensely popular in his lifetime.

An evening with the descendants of the Pasternak family, talking about the lives and work of artist Leonid Pasternak, father of Boris Pasternak, and his daughters Josephine and Lydia, who lived in England for most of their lives after emigrating with their father in 1921 to Berlin, and coming to England in the 1930s. LUKA OKROS is one of the most promising pianists of his generation. Born in 1991 (Tbilisi, Georgia), he began his piano studies at the age of 4. At the age of 5 Luka gave his first public performance and at age 6 he made his debut with the Tbilisi State Orchestra under Revaz Takidze. In 1999 aged only 8, Luka played for the leading Russian conductor and violinist Vladimir Spivakov, who immediately offered him a scholarship and later financial support for his move to Russia in 2004.
