The Total Dictation is an annual educational event aimed at drawing attention to issues of literacy and at developing a culture of literate writing. In essence, the event is a voluntary free dictation open for everyone taking place at the same time in tens of cities in Russia and around the world (adjusted for time zones). The Total Dictation is a peculiar flashmob event. People unfamiliar with each other learn about the event on the Internet, gather at the same time in one place, do something strange together and then disperse. The first Total Dictation which took place in Glasgow last year brought together people not indifferent towards Russian in Scotland. For those of us living here participation in such a project is not as much a way of increasing literacy but a desire to preserve a communion to this great sacrament – the Russian language.

A vote has opened on the website of the Russian Centre in Scotland as part of the competition "Scotland - RussiaThrough the Eyes of the Children". The competition results were summed up by the authoritative commission made up from representatives of cities of Aberdeen, Glasgow, Dundee, London, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and Edinburgh. Nevertheless, at the request of a number of participants the decision was made to place the drawings on the website and allow all those interested to have a free vote. The voting will remain open until March 14. To admire the achievements of our children and to support the works you like, please follow these links:

The Russian Centre in Scotland ‘Haven’ supported by Scottish Russian Forum and Glasgow City Council continues to expand the number of Scottish schools providing their students with an opportunity to acquaint children with the introduction and the essentials of Russian culture and the Russian language. Another Russian Club has recently opened at Cadder Primary School. Pupils  from P5 and P6 came to the first lesson which took place on February 2. The Russian Club creates a friendly, relaxed but at the same time competitive, fun and entertaining atmosphere. Kids are listening to and reading Russian fairy tales, playing games, singing Russian songs, performing short plays and getting genuine Russian presents. The work of The Club shows that acquaintance with the Russian language can be fun and fascinating.
